#81: Evidence-based Risks of Drinking Milk featuring Pediatrician Dr. Jackie Busse

“People talk a lot about “Oh, I only eat organic [cow’s] milk” or “I only eat low-fat [cow’s] milk”, or this and that. No matter what kind of [cow’s] milk you’re drinking those proteins are the same in every single one and have the same detrimental effects on growth, and cancer risk, and late-onset disease risk.” - Dr. Jackie Busse

Are you still confused about whether your child should drink milk? Are you worried that avoiding cow’s milk will lead to weak bones or poor growth? Wondering what kind of milk to give your toddler?

In this episode of Veggie Doctor Radio, I have a high-yield, information-packed conversation with Dr. Jackie Busse, a fellow board-certified and plant-based pediatrician. She is SMART and knows her stuff. It is just WOW! You will be blown away by how much great information is in this episode. I can’t wait for you to dive in!!!

We discuss:

  • The amazing (and unexpected!) health changes that occurred when she and her husband adopted a plant-based diet

  • Why dairy consumption may be an issue of social justice

  • The potential dangers of dairy consumption

  • The potential benefits of dairy intake

  • Calcium RDA’s and getting enough calcium on a plant-based diet

  • What kind of milk infants should drink

  • What kind of milk is appropriate for toddlers

  • What to say when well-meaning family members push milk

  • What she wishes more parents knew
