#108: How Empathy Altered the Path of this Wellness Focused Doctor

“Because we’ve done something for a long time doesn’t necessarily mean we should keep doing it.” -Dr. Shantala Sonnad

Dr. Shantala Sonnad was raised vegetarian, but had considered going vegan many times throughout her life. She finally made the transition after her youngest child was born. Now she helps others change their diet and lifestyle to prevent and reverse disease. She is also raising two vegan children.

Dr. Sonnad is cheerful, passionate and loving and you can just feel the dedication to her patients emanating from her. In this episode of Veggie Doctor Radio, I interview Dr. Sonnad and we have a conversation about empathy, veganism and change.

We discuss:

  • Why she finally stopped consuming dairy

  • Why she started an instagram account with her sister and mother

  • How she defines health and wellness

  • What she is most passionate about when she counsels patients

  • The story of one of her patients with an amazing health transformation

  • Where patients struggle to change

  • Her thoughts on raising plant-based kids

  • How the Covid-19 pandemic is related to eating meat

  • What she wishes more people knew
