Dr. Rizwan Bukhari and Maya Acosta are a husband and wife power team passionate about healthy lifestyles and plant-based nutrition. After learning about plant-based nutrition and doing their own research they have transformed their lives. They are now the leaders of PlantBased DFW a PlantPure Pod that aims to create community for those wanting to learn more about plant-based diets. Dr. Riz also leads Walk with a Doc and talks to his patients about lifestyle habits.

Dr. Rizwan Bukhari is a board certified vascular surgeon and is board certified in lifestyle medicine. He practices in Dallas. He has a specific interest in minimally invasive procedures such as atherectomy, angioplasty, and stenting for limb salvage and amputation prevention. He has seen the ravaging effects of poor lifestyle choices on health.

Maya Acosta is a plant-based nutrition advocate, educator, and avid home cook. She is very passionate about empowering people to improve their health. As a result, she works on collaborations, building relationships, running a podcast, website and social media to support their missions: 

  1. To educate individuals on taking control of their own health through better nutrition and better lifestyle choices.

  2. To unite, elevate and grow the Dallas plant-based community and now online community.

  3. To educate other healthcare professionals and physicians on the importance of plant-based nutrition so they too can incorporate this info into their patient education and treatment.

  4. To reach out to medical students and residents in training to teach them about plant-based nutrition and lifestyle medicine, understanding that they will be the future leaders to teach our patients.
