#99: Raising Plant-Based Pets with Dr. Armaiti May

“A thriving pet should be a happy pet, first and foremost.” -Dr. Armaiti May

Many people have chosen a vegan diet and lifestyle for themselves. Somewhere along the journey of veganism, they may wonder if it is biologically possible or even ethical to feed their pets a vegan diet as well. I wanted to learn more about raising my furry four-legged friend in the healthiest way possible so that she can enjoy a long, healthy life, so I invited a vet to the show.

In this episode of Veggie Doctor Radio, I talk with Dr. Armaiti May, a vegan Veterinarian that informs us on raising plant-based pets, specifically dogs.

We discuss:

  • Her journey to veganism

  • Why more vets aren’t vegan

  • Which common household pets can be fed a vegan diet

  • How we can keep our dogs healthy on a vegan diet

  • Integrating fresh food into commercial dog food

  • Foods we should definitely NOT be giving our dogs

  • Vitamin supplementation for dogs

  • How to tell if your pet is thriving

  • Signs and symptoms of allergies in dogs

  • Benefits of a vegan diet for dogs

  • What she wishes more people knew

  • What personal habit she is most proud of
